Africa has one of the World’s fastest – growing consumer markets

Africa has one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer markets, projected to grow to 1.7 bn consumers by 2030. Africa’s middle class is expanding rapidly. This new consumer base thus drives demand for a wide range of products and services, from luxury goods to financial services and healthcare. Consumer and business spending in Africa should reach around $6.6tn by 2030, fueled by population growth and urbanisation.

The reasons for consumer growth are many but in particular; access to the internet and mobile technology is on the rise across Africa. This digital growth opens up new chances for e-commerce, fintech, and other tech-driven sectors. Furthermore, if the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) is appropriately implemented in 2030, a single Africa market for goods and services will be very attractive to new entrants. The CFTA will offer companies various points of entry to Africa and its consumer market of 1.7bn.

Key African Markets

It is estimated that South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt will have the largest consumer markets in Africa by 2030. But these aren’t the only countries that offer opportunities. Companies should be aware of the potential in the rest of Africa, but especially: Algeria, Angola, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Rwanda, Sudan, Tunisia, and Tanzania. These countries all show signs of high economic growth in the years ahead.
